Q: What are the system requirements for Toybox Heroes?

A: In order to play Toybox Heroes, you must have a copy of Half-Life 2 installed, along with the Source SDK Base.  If you do not already have the Source SDK Base installed, it will automatically be downloaded the first time you play Toybox Heroes.

The system requirements for each component are as follows:

Half-Life 2:
    Processor: 1.2 GHz Processor
    OS: Windows, 2000/XP/Me/98
Graphic cards: DirectX 7 level graphics card
    Hard Drive: 4.5 GB
    Memory: 256 MB RAM
    Other: Internet Connection

Source SDK Base:
    Hard Drive: 220 MB

Toybox Heroes:
    Hard Drive: 650 MB
Other: LAN Connection, PlayStation 2 or similar Gamepad (recommended)

Q: I do not own a compatible gamepad.  Can I play Toybox Heroes with a keyboard?

A: Yes.  You will need to take the following steps in order to make keyboard input work:

1. Open to the Options menu.
2. Go to the "Mouse" tab, and uncheck the "Joystick" box.
3. Go to the "Keyboard" tab and assign your preferred key bindings to the following functions:

    a. Move forward/back/left/right
    b. Primary attack (punch)
    c. Secondary attack (kick)
    d. Jump
    e. Duck (special move)
    f. Use item (pick up and throw weapon)

4.  Finally, you will need to manually bind the block function with a console command.  Press the tilde key (~) to open the console and type the following, replacing "
KEY" with the key of your choice (enclosed in quotes).

    bind "KEY" "+block"

Note that on the character select screen, the jump key selects a character and the use key cancels.

Q:
Why are internet play and single player modes not supported?

A: The design requirements for this project were to recreate the experience of playing a classic multiplayer console game, with several players in a single room gathered around a single screen.  Given the time constraints of this project, it is unlikely that we would have been able to accomplish these goals and also provide functional, enjoyable internet multiplayer or single player experiences.
