About Crescent Moon Squad

About Us

It's been almost ten years since the Vortex Rikers incident. A few people bothered to investigate the crash. They never returned. Nothing has been heard about Na Pali since then. No one knows if anything still lives there, and no one really cares anymore.

Recently, Skaarj warriors have been making hit-and-run attacks on peaceful planets, using weapons made from Tarydium, which can only be found on Na Pali. Maybe something did survive....

Enter Crescent Moon Squad, galactic peacekeepers. They've been called upon to intercept Skaarj smugglers carrying Tarydium shipments from Na Pali.

You are the newest member of Crescent Moon Squad. You have been chosen to hunt down the smugglers and destroy them. Everything seems alright when you board your ship, but during the first night, something goes terribly wrong.

You're awoken with a start the second day by strange noises coming from somewhere within the ship. Something evil has boarded your ship while you were asleep, and it doesn't sound too happy....

Built by two teenagers, Crescent Moon Squad is the first-ever Unreal PC (partial conversion). Featuring twelve single-player levels, four deathmatch levels, and soundtracks by a great music tracker, it has generated much praise from Unreal fans. Crescent Moon Squad was originally planned as an add-on for Jedi Knight, but the idea was soon ditched after it became apparent that it would be way too difficult to pull off. Shortly afterwards, David and Kyle Pittman became members of Unreal.org. They toyed around with several ideas for add-ons, but after Unreal was released in May of 1998, they scrapped all their previous plans and decided to make an Unreal version of Crescent Moon Squad. The story and all the levels were planned in one day, and work began only a few days after Unreal was released. Not long after the project was started, David and Kyle built a web page devoted to Crescent Moon Software, a company named after their add-on. Work continued, more pictures were posted, and things were looking good. After switching hosts several times, they ended up at UnrealTimes, and CMS was almost done. Finally, on August 5, almost three months after Unreal was released, Crescent Moon Squad was finished, and final testing began. Two days later, Crescent Moon Software made a surprise release, launching CMS eight days sooner than planned. The response was overwhelming, with over 3,500 hits the first day. Feedback varied from "That was awesome" to "What's your next project?" and "It was too short!" In general, the audience was pleased, which came as a nice surprise to David and Kyle, who hadn't expected it to go over well. Now Crescent Moon Software is hosted by Unreal Nation (which is much better for popularity!), and they will continue to work on new projects as opportunities arise.
